Sleep Apnoea Appliances
What is Sleep Apnoea?
This is a condition that affects approximately five percent of adults, where the airway to your throat that leads from the nose and mouth to your lungs collapses when you are asleep causing constrictions in breathing. This doesn’t just cause snoring but results in a lack of oxygen being sent to the body’s vital organs and disrupted sleep. Sleep apnoea can result in long term consequences such as high blood pressure, diabetes and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
Signs and Symptoms of Sleep Apnoea
- Pauses when you snore / Gasping or choking following these pauses
- Headaches in the morning
- Memory or learning problems
- Lack of concentration
- Irritability, depression or mood swings
- Frequent urine breaks during sleep cycle
- Dry mouth or sore throat when you wake up
Dental Sleep Apnoea Appliances
Oral appliances can be used to treat mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.
Mandibular Repositioning Device
This consists of a ‘mouth guard’ fitted to both the top and bottom teeth and then joined together in a way that forces the bottom teeth to stand in front of the top teeth. This pushing forward of the bottom jaw opens up the airway and supports it so that it is less likely to collapse, thereby reducing the severity of sleep apnoea.
Tongue Retaining Device
This device holds the tongue forward during sleep, retaining it in an advanced position so as to stop it from obstructing your airway.
Invest in the Right Device
